This is not program bug. Windows or Hardware problem. Just follow the steps in this list until the problem is resolved.

1. Virus or Spyware is main cause of problem : My Computer(right click) > Manage > Services and Applications > Services > 'Plug and Play' & 'Windows Audio' Stop and Start. And fix to virus & spyware.

2. Registry problem : Registry cleaning (ex : registry booster)

3. Hardware problem : If you have integrated audio device > to enable Audio device in BIOS // If you have add-in sound card > to re-installing a sound card(Hardware. not driver!)

4. If overclocked your PC : Undo your PC.

5. Try to LAN cable unplug > Reinstall Windows.

6. If it is yet to be solved : Audio device is not exist. Or defective device.

1. I was able to stop and restart 'windows audio' but I was not able to stop or start 'plug and play'. Should I restart the computer?

2. I tried registry cleaning.

3. I don't think I've integrated any audio devices, but I'm not sure if I have add-in sound card too. How can I check if I have one or not?

4. I have no idea what is a overclock...or overclocking..

5. I don't think reinstalling windows will solve it, because upgrading my computer to Windows 7, I still had sound problem in Windows vista.

1. 'Plug and play' : my startup type is set as 'automatic,' and my service status is 'started'
But when I restarted windows audio, my audio output device was still not visible..

3. My laptop is 'HP Pavillion dv2000.' (and I don't think it is very recent computer :P)

1. Oh I'm sorry. Restart is for 'Windows Audio' only.

   'Plug and Play' - If you notice any of the following, please report to me.

       - Startup type : Disabled

       - Service status : Stopped

3. The probability is that is integrated audio device. It is a recent trend. What is the product name of the laptop?

4. Maybe not overclocked because you have no idea. Go on to the next step.

5. Use only as a last resort.

There are potential problems.

1. Nobody can prove that there is, or there isn't.(HD Audio option in BIOS)

2. Mistake of BIOS setting can cause terrible system problems.

I hope you'll give this careful consideration.

1. Go over to your PC and boot it up.

2. Press 'F2' or 'Del' key

3. Look for the Onboard HD Audio(or similar option)

4. Press 'Enter' key to enter the sub-menu

5. Choose to 'Auto'

6. Press 'Enter' key

7. Press 'F10' key

8. Save and exit
